College Degree Essay Example for Free
Advanced education Essay When over the span of human occasions, it gets important for one individual to disintegrate the groups which has associated him to a low paying vocation with little trust in headway, and to accept that the people pulling the strings won't offer him the advancements and acknowledgment that he believes he has the right to which the laws of nature and natures God entitles him, a better than average regard to the expectation he has for his future necessitates that he ought to proclaim the means which he will take to accomplish the objectives which he has set for himself. . I have numerous objectives which I would like to accomplish through the fulfillment of my degrees. With the end goal of this plan of action I will dive into three of them. The main objective I have is to accomplish a more lucrative activity. The second objective that I have is to work my way into a place of administration. At long last, neither my dad, mother nor sibling has attended a university hence it is my craving to be the first of our family to accomplish a degree. In the activity showcase today lucrative employments are at a higher cost than normal. I trust I heard a measurement once that said the normal salary for a solitary pay home is around fifty-thousand dollars. I have lived in this level of pay and ability troublesome it tends to be to keep up a family on that pay. With a house installment and two vehicle installments and everything else that goes into keeping up a home that can rapidly deplete a families funds. I as of late accepted a more lucrative position, in the upper sixties and simply that little pay raise has done miracles for my families income. I would like to accomplish a position which pays in the nineties to low one-hundreds and past. Most employments which pay significant compensation require as an essential that the individual in that position has an elevated level of instruction. Regularly, the higher the degree of training the higher the degree of pay. I have consistently had numerous administration characteristics and I appreciate working with others to enable them to succeed. Authority offers a novel chance to manage others and help them along their ways of accomplishment. I don't quantify my own prosperity on how high of an initiative position that I can accomplish yet rather the quantity of individuals that I can assist with accomplishing the objectives which they have set for themselves. Regardless of whether it be helping other people increment information or achieve objectives or simply help them along their excursion, I realize that from a place of administration I can help other people thusly. That is the reason I wish to be a pioneer. Numerous places of initiative necessitate that you have degrees to go with your experience, so that is the manner by which I am trusting that an advanced education will support me. At long last, I have an individual objective of being the first in my family to procure an advanced education. Being a parent I know since the familiar aphorism is valid, guardians consistently need their children to improve in life than they have done. I realize this is valid for my folks. They have consistently trusted that I would show improvement over them and have consistently energized and upheld me along that way. At the point when I think back upon my school vocation it will be with a feeling of pride realizing this is something that my folks needed for me the same amount of as I have wanted it. I additionally realize that my folks have an extraordinary expectation and desire that I give a decent life to their grandson and keeping in mind that cash and acknowledgment are not all that they surely take a portion of the weight of bringing up a kid off of you. In summation, the entirety of my objectives of gaining degrees rotate around my child. At the point when my child was conceived I quickly realized that I needed to come back to class. I had been fumbling for a really long time in lower paying situations with little trust in headway. My dad gave a steady home as I was growing up, we never needed to stress over cash or food. My expectation is that I will give that and more to my family. By achieving an advanced education I put my self into a vastly improved situation to accomplish a position which pays more significant compensations. Furthermore, it will permit me to help other people by being in a place of administration. At long last, the pride that I will have in myself and the pride that I know my folks and family will have in me will make the entire excursion that a lot better.

Human Resource Management Assignment 1 Example
Human Resource Management Assignment 1 Example Human Resource Management Assignment 1: â" Essay Example > Company overview: Airbus UKAccording to Redman and Wilkinson âAirbus UK is a part of a giant European aerospace group EADS and is jointly owned by EADS and British BAE system. It is the only European manufacturer of aircraft. Airbus UK competes with their American manufacturer Boeing, the worldâs only other aircraft manufacturer. Airbus has European manufacturing facilities in Germany, France and Spain as well as the UK. In the UK the company operates on two sites: Filton (Bristol) and Broughton (Cheshire). (Redman and Wilkinson, 2006)According to an article published on BBC website âIn April 2006 BAE Systems announced its intention to sell its share of Airbus SAS to EADS. BAE originally sought to agree a price with EADS through an informal process. However due to the slow pace of negotiations and disagreements over price, BAE exercised its put option which saw investment bank Rothschild appointed to give an independent valuation. â (BBC News, 2006)Advantages and disadvant ages of the new reward structureBefore 2001, Airbus was using job based system. In job-based systems, the assumption is made that work gets done by people who are paid to perform well-defined jobs. Each job is designed to accomplish specific tasks and is normally performed by several people. Because all jobs are not equally important to the firm and the labor market puts a greater value on some jobs than on others, the compensation system primary objective is to allocate pay so that the most important jobs pay the most. This is the traditional form of pay system which was used in Airbus before 2001 designing of new reward structure where employees increased their base pay as they were promoted to higher grades in organizational chart. There are three key components of developing job-based compensation plans: Achieving internal equity (job evaluation) based on six steps; Achieving external equity based on market survey andAchieving individual equityJob based-compensation assesses t he relative value or contribution of different jobs to an organization. The first part of this process is known as job evaluation composed of six steps to provide rational, orderly and systematic judgement of how important each job is to firm. In job evaluation the company conducts: job analysis; write job description; determines job specifications; rate worth of all jobs using a predetermined system; create job hierarchy and classify jobs by grade levels. Now in order to achieve external equity company conducts market survey. The purpose of this survey is to determine the pay ranges for each grade level. This is done in order to achieve external equity. Airbus was planning to conduct this survey and benchmark itself against the top notch companies so that the employees are fairly paid as compared to the same ranks being paid in the other companies. After this survey is conducted it has to make strategic choice about whether it will pay the same rate, a lower rate, or a higher rat e. Even though the entire process is performed thoroughly but I believe that the system has many problems. Firstly even though there is capacity in this system to assess the performance of each individual and their ranks and grades are determined according to that but what if the employee has performed well during or before the entire evaluation period. Then how will he will be rewarded or graded for that? I think that in this system the job is considered more, its importance and contribution to the company is given utmost importance and the potential, skills and expertise of the person is not paid, leaving no room behind for better performance and increase productivity level for the employee.

Schwartz-Nobel, Loretta. Growing Up Empty The Hunger...
Schwartz-Nobel, Loretta. Growing Up Empty: The Hunger Epidemic in America. New York, NY: HarperCollins Publishers Inc. 2002 (248 pages) First, I would like to give my opinion of whether this book was worthwhile at the beginning of this book review. Because I believe this is one of the most moving books written today about the problem of hunger in America. I also believe that this book should be required reading for every elected official who has the power to end the needless tragedy of hunger in America. This is a very well-written, well-researched book based on real people with real stories not just about numbers, trends, stats, or theories. Growing Up Empty is a chilling account of the struggle to get enough to eat that confrontsâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦And if a growing child cannot get the food he needs, his body will soon begin to waste. Over a longer period the childs growth will be permanently stunted (pg. 4). Tragically, after the Harvard Physicians Task Force traveled across America in 1985, they wrote We verified reports of Americans suffering from severe malnutrition: children diagnosed with kwashiorkor, marasmus or cavitary tuberculosis; adults and children literally dying from starvation, suffering from severe wasting or contracting serious infectious diseases(pg. 4). It was difficult to read that countless millions of federal dollars and many of our countrys most successful efforts to halt the spread of childhood hunger and starvation have recently been withdrawn. And as a result, this problem of childhood hunger is not getting better but is actually getting worse. The most recent estimates compiled by the USDA in 1999 indicate that 36.2 million Americans live in food-insecure households, which means that their access to adequate and safe food is limited or uncertain. This too is very disturbing information. And as the book strongly suggested the topic of hunger is almost never publicly mentioned by our political leaders. Even in President Bushs inaugural address in 2001, the word hunger was never spoken (pg. 5). I found the following quote by George McGovern back in 1972 most compelling: To admit the existence of hunger in America is to confess that we have failed inShow MoreRelatedRhetorical Analysis Of `` Growing Up Empty, Award Winning Public Service Journalist, Speaker, And Author1779 Words à |à 8 Pagesapart to persuade an audience. Getting along with Diversity A compilation of suggestion from business experts that have mastered the art of managing diverse workforces Conclusion The authorââ¬â¢s opinion on the topic being discussed based from the researches that have been posted in the paper. Managing Diversity in the Workforce Introduction HAVE you ever heard stories of a race of people who had no mouth and therefore could neither eat nor drink? They were said to survive by smelling, mostly apples. A bad odor would kill them. There were also tales of a West African people who had gold to trade. A Portuguese shipââ¬â¢s captain of the time reported: ââ¬Å"Two hundred leagues beyond [the] kingdom of [Mali], one finds a country the inhabitants of which have the heads and teeth of dogs and tails like dogs. These are the Blacks who refuse to enter into conversation because they do not wish to see other men.â⬠Those were some of the strange ideas that were held many years ago, before the age of travel and discovery. Such stories were taken seriously for centuries. Nevertheless, as explorers charted the planet, they found no mouth less apple smellers, no dog-headed people. Today there remains little mystery about those who live beyond our borders. The world has become a global village. Television brings foreign lands and peoples into our living rooms. Air travel makes it possible to visit those lands within hours; millions of people do so each year. Others are on the move for economic or political reasons. States a report of the United Nations Population Fund: ââ¬Å"On a scale unknown in historyââ¬âand certain to growââ¬âpeople around the world are uprooting themselves and migrating in search of a better life.â⬠About 100 million people live outside the country in which they were born. Increasingly there is economic interdependency among nations. A global communications network, like a gigantic central nervous system, links every nation of theà earth. As ideas, information, and technology are exchanged, cultures merge and adapt to one another. Throughout the world, people dress more alike than ever before. Cities of the world share much in commonââ¬âpolice, luxury hotels, traffic, stores, banks, pollution. Thus, as the peoples of the world come together, we witness what some describe as an emerging world culture. Nevertheless, while peoples and cultures intermingle, clearly not all see one another as brothers. ââ¬Å"Everyoneââ¬â¢s quick to blame the alien,â⬠wrote a Greek playwright over 2,000 years ago. Sadly, the same is true today. The evidence is no farther away than newspaper reports of bigotry, hatred of foreigners, ââ¬Å"ethnic cleansing,â⬠racial strife, religious riots, massacre of civilians, killing fields, rape camps, torture, or genocide. Of course, most of us can do little or nothing to change the course of ethnic conflicts. We may not even be directly affected by them. For many of us, however, problems come from a lack of communication with the foreigners with whom we come into contactââ¬âneighbors, workmates, or schoolmates. Does it not seem odd that people of differing ethnic groups so often find it difficult to trust and appreciate one another? After all, ours is a planet of enormous diversity, endless variety. Most of us appreciate the rich variety of food, music, and color as well as the many kinds of plants, birds, and animals. Somehow, appreciation of variety does not always carry over to people who do not think and act in the same way that we do. Instead of looking at the positive aspects of diversity among peoples, many tend to focus on the differences and make them a point of contention. à Certainly, living in a world that is governed with diversity, it could be expected that in the workplace, diversity itself is also present and thus cannot be avoided. Many workers refer to this hardship as the common source of many conflicts within the working area. Hence, the performance of the employees is then directly affected. Impossible as it may have seemed, diversity within the workplace has still been referred to by many modern business enthusiasts such as John Riddle in his book ââ¬Å"Business Managementâ⬠. How could this be possible? Before knowing the preferred solution of experts towards the said problem, it is important to take notice of what is really meant by being diverse, and how does it really affect the entire performance of the workforce. What is Diversity? Diversity, when referred to in business terms may mean a lot of things. An organizationââ¬â¢s workforce may be referred to as diverse for many reasons as well. Diversity may occur because of the differences of opinion because of the differences in personality, in age, in educational attainment, in status in life and even in culture. Mostly, as observed on different business companies, the main reason of such diversity is the existence of a much distinct group of races making up a single workforce for a company. How could all these happen? As mentioned in the introduction, many people have already transferred from place to place and a lot of those people, the so-called immigrants, have already decided to stay and work on the foreign lands they have gone to. You read "Managing Diversity in the Workforce" in category "Essay examples" Hence, the main effect of this social move on achieving success on other places, the employment ofà the multicultural population has been the resort to supporting the lives of the said immigrants. Hence, the workforce of every company making up the business industries are at times having the same worries on how to face the challenge of dealing with and managing people who are widely different from each other. Getting along with Diversity As mentioned earlier, management of a diverse workforce has been one of the biggest problems that concern the human resources department of any type of company present in the business industries. Hence, it is just reasonable to say that at some points, some management teams may find it a difficult task as well. However, the author, John riddle says otherwise. According to him, ââ¬Å"these are all factors of management that should be considered by good managers even before entering an organizationâ⬠(113). Hence, this definitely means that avoiding diversity in the workforce may be impossible but giving a resolution to it is not that impossible. After all, there is still a common ground among the working force of each company no matter how diverse they may be it is that they are humans, which makes them capable of being dealt with and managed well. In this regard, John Riddle has suggested several points of consideration when dealing with such business problems. In general terms, he summarized the ways by which a good manager could handle the difficulties of dealing with a diverse workforce. The said suggestions are as follows: Concentrate on the strengths of the employees. When a manager discovers the tasks where the employees usually excel in, they should be assigned to them as they are expected to be more productive on those fields of the job. Understand the abilities and the potential of each employee present in the organization. These potential assets of the employees could as well be used by the company itself in aiming for the goals that it has set up for the future. Allow communication lines t be open at all times. It is very important for managers to be good listeners. The ability of hearing what the employees want form the company as well as to how they could be of bigger help to the organization could be used as a resource of ideas for the company as well. Make the employees feel that they too have a sense of authority in the company. However, this type of authority should not overstep that of the administrationââ¬â¢s. It should be clear that this authority could only be exercised at specific times and places when it is permitted. This may often refer to an ââ¬Ëopen doorââ¬â¢ policy that deals with an easier type of agreement between the employees, which could give them a chance to affect how the organization is being managed. They are then allowed to give suggestions; however, no suggestions are implemented unless approved by the administration. Make sure that all employees understand the business goals and objectives. It should always be remembered that a well-informed employee, whether young or old, is a productive employee. A manager should always remember that he is supervising people with feelings who are valuable members of the organization, hence, treating them with great respect at all times no matter what culture they come from is one of the most important virtue any manager could post as an example for his colleagues. Treating everyone fairly and sensitively is the key to creating a fine working environment. It should be remembered that because of the different clutters of the people, they all have different preferences; they have different personal obligations and other more. Considering the fact that dealing with multicultural workforce also involve dealing with their differences of belief, a manager could as well consider fairness at all times to be able to set a common ground for everyone else in the organization. Keep everyone else busy and going all the time. Feeling oneââ¬â¢s worth is usually measured on the things they are able to do for the organization in a day. In this manner, it could be said that regardless of oneââ¬â¢s difference from the others, being able to do something for the company and being of worth to the organization makes an employee feel that even though there are differences, he still belongs to the organization he is working for. Keep employees informed of the ins and outs of the organization. Keeping employees in the dark when some changes within the organization arise may give them the notion that they are not given importance by the administration of the company. Acknowledge the employeesââ¬â¢ efforts, years of work, talent, creativity and good job attributes. Doing so would help everyone else strive for the best while they are working in the company. It could be noticed that the suggestions listed in here are general. Putting these suggestions into good use have mostly caused several companies to achieve unity beyond diversity in their own much diverse workforces. Hence, as Jones commented in his book ââ¬Å"Contemporary Managementâ⬠, ââ¬Å"diversity is a normal part of modern management. Being globally distinct, it could not be avoided that dealing with different people everyday is a challenge to the modern managers todayâ⬠(180). Conclusion The certainties of dealing with diverse people in the workforce are around ninety-nine percent. Considering that we are living in a culturally diverse society, it could be argued that a diverse workforce is indeed a challenge to many business managers today. However, at first, this fact may seem a big problem, on the other hand, if the managers are able to see the common ground of everyone else, which is being human, the said managers would recognize the possibility of making diversity a source of further progress for the company. Mixing up the talents and the abilities of the employees for the goal of the organization would surely help the company reach its peak potential. BIBLIOGRAPHY Riddle, John. (2001). The Transformation of African American Language free essay sample
The Transformation of African American Language Since the rise of technology, advertising Is becoming more and more prominent. Television, computers, tablets, and smart phones are all modern mechanisms in which advertisers use to promulgate their products. Most advertising companies select a target audience with their ads. In most cases advertisers use a cool approach in their ads to market to teenagers; since they have become large- scale consumers. Leslie Savanna, an author, delves into this trend of marketing to teenagers in her excerpt, Whats Black, Then White, and Said All Over?She explains how advertising has adapted to using black vernacular to attract a young or a wannabe cool crowd. Savanna states, Since at least the early nineties, with hip-hop an entrenched, virtually mainstream hit, wannabe has been far more likely to refer to whites, especially teenagers, who want to be black or do the style (370). By the early nineties black slang had become in-style. Black vernacular was no longer looked down upon, but Instead used to seem trendy or hip to teenagers and part of the rest of society. Advertisers noticed this trend and decided to use black slang to attract customers. O the young, advertising has become acceptable-nay, desirable-part of the cool life they aspire to: and a black, hip-hop-Sis vernacular has become a crucial cog in the youth market machinery (366). Teenagers desire the rebelliousness of hip- hop and therefore admire any advertisement that portrays that rebellious look. Since teens have become large-scale consumers, advertisers have been trying to target their marketing to adolescents and young adults for decades. Black vernacular has become a marketing technique and is getting stripped from its roots. First, black talk has become deemed as admirable through rap. This is mainly because In their lyrics rappers are usually showing off possessions or their talents. Lisa Green, the author of African American English, Justifies this In her book, One prominent feature of rap Is bragging and boasting about strengths, possessions, and skills using words (156). Rappers take pride in their work with the rhyme scheme, creative words, and diffuseness. They create both an ego for themselves and the consumers who listen to their work by being seen as strong and dominant.Rap and hip-hop has broken through its boundaries of the poverty regions and now has an influence on Tyler, clothing, television, sexuality, magazines, language, movies, and society as a whole. Ebonies is now praised and used by top-of-the-line designer fashion industries, musicians, critics, scholars, politicians, and your average citizen. Savanna asserts, chill Orrin, the Democratic senator Patrick Alley told the Republican senator Orrin Hatch when things got testy during a Judiciary Committee hearing In 1 998 (370). Mr.. Alley was attempting to look cool by telling the other senator to chill.However, It was more than Just looking cool, he was using the admired black Renaults against his opponent. Patrick was standing his ground In basically saying of dominance ebonies, rap, and hip-hop provides. This supremacy has caused advertisers to look to rap as their key to a making profit. Next, rap and hip-hop has been brought into the advertising industry due to its increasing popularity and veneration in society. Mainly teens have been the generators for the up-rise in rap and hip-hop recognition. Teenagers are the target audience among markers.Adolescents feel an urge to be accepted by their peers and thus spend money what ever happens to be in. Therefore marketing to teens is a good strategy due to the fact that they spend the most amount of money on frivolous things. Karen Fanning confirms Just how much marketers want to attract young consumers in her article, Marketing To Teens: Does Owning More Stuff Make You More Popular? Thats What Advertisers Want You To Think. Fanning states, Marketers spend more than fifteen billion dollars a year on advertising to young people. ..In 2006, U. S. Teens spent, or influenced parents to spend, a whopping one hundred fifty three billion dollars (Fanning). Clearly the advertisers efforts are paying off by earning one hundred thirty eight billion dollars more than they initially spent on advertising. Commercials tend to promise adolescents popularity and acceptance from their peers. They feel that they too will be seen as cool and experience a dominant level of skill and superiority as seen in commercials and shown off by rappers.Moreover, advertisers are gaining consumer popularity more than ever now that technology has advanced. Television, electronics, and the internet has accompanied marketers in getting their products exposed. Fanning claims, Marketers are enticing teens through one of their favorite internet activities-?video games. On Wriggles website Candidates. Com, for instance, kids can race Big Red and Juicy Fruit cars around a track lined with billboards advertising Wrigley products (Fanning).Children involuntarily absorb these advertisements while being completely focused on their favorite game because their sub-conscious stores this advertisement in their minds and they ask their parents for the advertised product some point after their video game. Furthermore, advertising through young peoples favorite games is not he only way to attract their attention, using African American coded language also gets teens and children begging for products. The African American code is now packed tightly into a single letter form that advertisers use to attract Juveniles.Such codes are used with gs and axs, changing a single letter in a word can change its look. Savanna claims, A quick trick to convince children that theyre cool and that you, if youre a seller of stuff, are radar, is to call them kid and otherwise buzz their brains with As: hence, the glitzier Troll dolls and cartoons, Brat dolls, Intro Battlers, Kellogg Grips crackers and cookies, Heresys Koehler chewing gum (374). When corporations misspell these words they are attempting to be considered radar and rebellious.Advertisers are going against what children learn in school, and of course, children want to be cool and rebellious too. Adolescents believe that who ever created these products are truly awesome, and understand them and what they want. So children choose to play with and consume these items over others. Children, however, do not know what is really behind all the rebellious lettering. Behind it is the marketers boundless want of the consumers money. To continue, advertisers need to figure out what is popular in order to go about creating effective fortune is to realize what is currently considered cool. Savanna explains, Pop cultures desire for cool is second only to its desire for money-the two, in fact, are inextricably linked (364). Money and being cool, clearly go hand in hand. Our society has gone from making a parody of back vernacular in entertainment, to venerating it as hip- hop and rap. Basically, our society has made fun of the African American culture for money, and now they put the culture up on a pedestal for money. What ever happens to be popular at the time is what goes into advertisements. In fact, the original African American culture is fading into the background as it has transformed into a part of American teen culture.African American slang is what young Americans look up to due to its hierarchy. Advertisers have realized this trend of cool slang used by teens who admire hip-hop, and thus attempt to use it to their advantage. In the video Merchants of Cool, created by the PBS Frontline Program, John Cone, an interviewed record executive explains the company Sprites tactic to gaining teenagers liking, They -all of the sudden put their arm around the kid that was drinking Sprite and said, We understand you, we recognize, we want to be a part of your life. And not just, Please drink our product. They almost werent even selling the product, they were selling the fact that they understood the culture. They were selling a life style and I think thats why Sprite has been so successful and one of the leaders in terms of reaching youth (ASS). The marketers at Sprite had noticed that African American culture: rap, hip-hop, slang, baggy Jeans, and do-rags, have become a part of young American adult culture. The rhythm, slang, and boasting in rap and hip-hop has created a new era of wh at is considered cool. Technically, marketers are selling culture while selling cool since this new culture is considered cool.The rise of popularity in rap and hip-hop has made rappers and hip-hop artists billions of dollars. Savanna quotes, As the critic Greg Tate wrote on the thirteenth anniversary of hip hop, globally speaking, hip-hop is money at this point, a valued form of currency where brothers are offered stock options in exchange for some corporate entity to stand next to their fire Oh, the selling power of black Hip-hop ND rap artists used to write their music about the hardships they faced living in the ghetto and coming from a lower class society. Now, rappers are less deep. They write songs about being millionaires, the money they acquired, the cars they have, the yachts they own, and the many woman they have access to due to money. Young people have been exposed to black slang marketing since they were young, with use of gs and axs on their product packages, adverting on their computer screens and televisions. As they grow older young Americans are exposed to the money, sex, and material possession crazed songs rap has become. Therefore, young Americans overly admire being wealthy, sex, and having all the material goods one can attain.So young people admire the well-to-do rap and hip-hop artists. This craze of cool has been created with out any regard that rap and hip-hop is being pulled away from its less superficial ways and originality into becoming an endless pit of money. To conclude, people are becoming more accepting of one another, which is positive. People can now set aside their differences and be together. America is a large mix of different people from many countries around the world. However, African American slang, code, and vernacular in general has become an American way of life.

Foreshadowing in Romeo and Juliet free essay sample
I have nights cloak to hide me from their sight; And but thou love me, let them find me here: My life were better ended by their hate, Than death prorogued, wanting of thy love. (II. it. 75-79) William Shakespeare used foreshadowing throughout Romeo and Juliet with many of the characters to enhance the audiences interest and feeling of suspense. In acts two and three, Friar Lawrence, Juliet and Romeo all foreshadow Romeo and Juliets demise at the end of the play. Romeo meets with Friar Lawrence prior to his marriage to Juliet, and Friar Lawrence while agreeing to marry them offers these words to Romeo: These violent delights have violent ends And in their triumph die, like fire and powder, Which as they kiss consume: the sweetest honey Is loathsome in his own deliciousness And in the taste confounds the appetite: Therefore love moderately; long love doth so; Too swift arrives as tardy as too slow. We will write a custom essay sample on Foreshadowing in Romeo and Juliet or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page (II. v. 9-15) This is a wonderful example of foreshadowing their tragic ending. The audience and Romeo are looking forward to their love being united in marriage, but Shakespeare uses the Friars words to foreshadow their future, thereby elevating the suspense for the audience. Juliet in the morning after consummating their marriage, and as Romeo is leaving, looks down from her balcony and comments that he has the pale face that death brings: O God, I have an ill-divining soul! Methinks I see thee, now thou art below, As one dead in the bottom of a tomb: Either my eyesight fails, or thou lookst pale (Ill. v. 52-56) Romeo responds that she as well looks pale: And trust me, love, in my eye so do you. Dry sorrow drinks our blood. Adieu, v. 57-58) Romeo and Juliet do not know that the next time they see one another, one of them will be dead. The audience knows that a sorrowful ending awaits these star-crossed lovers, and this excellent use of foreshadowing heightens their anticipation. Romeo, after slaying Tybalt in a moment of vengeance and rage has been banished this scene foreshadows his and Juliets impending death: . But Romeo may not; he is banished: Flies may do this, but I from this must fly: They are free men, but I am banished. And sayst thou yet that exile is not death? Hadst thou no poison mixd, no sharp-ground knife, No sudden mean of death, though neer so mean, But banished to kill me? banished? O friar, the damned use that word in hell; Howlings attend it: how hast thou the heart, Being a divine, a ghostly confessor, A sin-absolver, and my friend professd, To mangle me with that word banished? (Ill. iii. 40-51) Romeo is speaking of death being preferred over banishment from Verona, and because of this never seeing Juliet again. By the end of the play, the foreshadowed poison and the knife will be the cause of Romeo and Juliets death. William Shakespeares clever use of foreshadowing throughout the play Romeo and Juliet elevated the audiences attention, and anticipation of the final outcome. Romeo and Juliet, as well as Friar Lawrence foretold of these tragic events to come. Wash they his wounds with tears: mine shall be spent, When theirs are dry, for Romeos banishment. Take up those cords: poor ropes, you are beguiled, Both you and l; for Romeo is exiled: He made you for a highway to my bed; But l, a maid, die maiden-widowed. Come, cords, come, nurse; Ill to my wedding-bed;

Altering Public Space in Ugly Ways essays
Altering Public Space in Ugly Ways essays In his essay Black Men and Public Space, Brent Staples attempts to introduce people to something most all are guilty of, but pay little attention to. Using accounts from his own and others experiences, Staples essay portrays the racist tendency of people to assume black men are potentially violent and dangerous. Staples discovery of this comes during a late-night encounter. A young white female, whom Staples labels my first victim (197), was walking down the street in front of Staples and was not comfortable with the space he provided for her. After a couple of glances back and changes in her pace, she soon began running and disappeared down a side street. Of course, Staples had no intention of robbing or in any way harming this woman. He was just taking a walk, just as she was. Nevertheless, this was a fairly well to do neighborhood. Apparently, this woman figured that if a black man did find himself in this part of town, he was most likely up to something. Not wanting any trouble, she decided to get out of harms way. In another illustration, Staples describes an instance in which he was delivering a story to the editor of a magazine for which he was writing, and was mistaken for a burglar. While racing to his editors desk in order to meet his deadline, the office manager and an ad hoc posse (199) of security personnel began to chase him through the building. I had no way of proving who I was, Staples writes. I could only move briskly toward the company of someone who knew me. (106) While writing for a Chicago paper, Staples walked into a jewelry store in another well-off part of town, and encountered another situation where his skin color came into play. The woman behind the counter disappeared and returned with an angry Doberman. Understanding that the woman did not quite value him as a possible sale, ...

Online Travel Industry And Online Travel Agency Tourism Essay
Online Travel Industry And Online Travel Agency Tourism Essay In Europe, consumers typically have at least 4 weeks of vacation time annually compared to just 1 or 2 weeks for the average American; that spells multiple trips booked every year. It should come as no surprise then that online travel growth rates remain far higher overseas And then theres Asia. Fifteen years ago, few consumers in India and China could afford to travel outside their home nations. But thanks to a rising middle-class consumer, Asians are increasingly traveling both domestically and abroad. In fact, according to the China Daily newspaper, international travel has grown more than 50-fold in the past two decades. Rapid growth in the online travel business has helped fuel impressive sales gains for a handful of online travel companies. But thats only half the story online travel websites are also far more profitable than traditional offline travel agency operations. The reason is simple: scalability. Specifically, when a traditional travel agency wishes to expand, it has to hire more agents. Meanwhile, expanding abroad requires setting up a local office with agents speaking the local language, and that type of infrastructure can get expensive. But in the online world, once a website is designed and set up, it can handle a tremendous number of users. Growth in sales does not necessarily require commensurate growth in the labor force a handful of website designers and technicians can maintain the site regardless of the number of customers served. This scalability is behind the fat profit margins enjoyed by online travel firms. Travel and tourism are among the biggest industries worldwide, and more than 80 percent of the travel sold in the United States is now purchased online. With more consumers using the Internet to plan their vacation getaways, online travel agencies have been growing in popularity, helping to increase business in the travel industry overall. Aside from booking travel packages, many travelers go online in search of travel reviews before making a final decision about their choices. Reports show that more travelers who have traditionally booked trips offline are checking out vacation destinations, as well as travel and hotel rates, online. India Context The Indian Scenario The online travel market in India has witnessed tremendous growth and is attracting large number of national and international players. Private equity players have made huge investments in the online travel agency (OTA) segment in the past few years. On an average, every aircraft in India does 5.6 flights per day If airlines could further manage route optimization and do 1 more flight per day, at 6.6 flights per day, OTA Industry Sales will be up by 15% The first online portal for India was Indiatimes.com launched in the year 2002. The focus is not just to provide cheap tickets. Advertising helps in getting your message across to the target audience more effectively. And with more and more players entering the segment, it is necessary to advertise to ensure you have captured sufficient mind-share. Again, the product basket that MMT offer is growing and our customers have to be updated accordingly. Expansion of Capacity : MMT is trying to expand capacity with caution, especially because the sector is capex hungry for the suppliers. We, at MakeMyTrip, have learnt that our suppliers are very important. Unless we make sure our suppliers business is profitable, we wont be profitable. Revenue breakup between MMT businesses: Between hotel and air, air captures a much higher percentage two-thirds of MMT business. But other product lines are growing fast, especially hotels and buses. The effort is to reduce reliance on a single line of business. While MMT lead the sector in terms of air tickets, MMT are continuously focusing on non-air products to increase their share of revenue as well. competing players Travelguru: A revolutionary online travel solutions destination, Travel Guru India has set the benchmark in the industry. Deep Kalra, Founder CEO: Creating an experience for the customer is very important. Every OTA player today is focusing on providing more value for the customers time and money. The focus this year for MakeMyTrip is to move beyond customer satisfaction and towards creating customer delight. Also, we take pride in our customer relations; we have customer testimonials that speak very highly of our customer care executives. Being ahead on the technology curve is what gives us an edge. Its very important to keep on upgrading and reinventing new processes to enhance customer experience. Whats behind your advertising strategy? Deep Kalra, Founder CEO: Its very important to establish the brand. For us, the focus is not just to provide cheap tickets. Advertising helps in getting your message across to the target audience more effectively. And with more and more players entering the segment, it is necessary to advertise to ensure you have captured sufficient mind-share. Again, the product basket that we offer is growing and our customers have to be updated accordingly. Whats the revenue breakup between your businesses? Deep Kalra, Founder CEO: Between hotel and air, air captures a much higher percentage two-thirds of our business. But other product lines are growing fast, especially hotels and buses. The effort is to reduce reliance on a single line of business. While we lead the sector in terms of air tickets, we are continuously focusing on non-air products to increase their share of revenue as well. Criticism Some customers complain about Makemytrip not giving the complete terms of ticket (baggage allowed, flexibility to change date of travel or cancel the ticket) before booking the ticket. Some complain about false promises before booking the ticket. They warn potential customers to get the terms of the ticket in writing or email before going ahead with the phone booking. Refunds to credit cards are sometimes delayed. It is believed that calls to customer care in case of booked tickets is low priority in call queues compared to calls to buy tickets. There is undue delay in getting service in case of getting help on already booked ticket. The escalation process in case of complaints is not published on their website. Estimated waiting period or the position in the call queue is not announced. Other customers have warned that the websites Believe It Or Not promotion is indeed too good to be true. While MakeMyTrip promises you free domestic air travel once youve arrived in Inda, all such ai r travel must be booked 21 days in advance of the trip. And even if you attempt to arrange it that far in advance,à Make My Tripà makes this process very difficult, if not impossible. You will be booked on overnight flights, trips that should take three hours will wind up taking two days, and in some cases you will wind up paying taxes and fees that exceed the actual cost of the ticket, had you booked it yourself.à Customer Opinion As per various feeback posted on the website following is the broad feeback given : The call centre agents are well trained and they know their job Phone / Voice Menu is customer friendly Quick Customer responses where required on email

Perseverence Is the Key to Success
It is an apt saying that ââ¬Å"fire is the test of gold and adversity, of manâ⬠. The key to success in any field is the perseverance of a human being. Success is like a ladder where the person steeping in to it has to undergo a lot of hard work to reach at the top. There would be many pitfalls and obstructions but the fruit will be surely sweet. Hence, one must not run away from perseverance rather should adopt in such a way that you are able to overcome your difficulties with it.Success in life doesn't come easily and there are many failures and hurdles for a person to clear before its achievement. The one undying quality every successful man in this world has is the quality of perseverance. It is this quality which makes even the seemingly impossible become possible. The dictionary meaning of perseverance is ââ¬Å"Persisting in or remaining constant to a purpose, idea or task in spite of obstacles. â⬠It is necessary to be wise while being perseverant about something. O ne should be clear about his/her priorities in life before choosing to persevere.At times you might not want to quit simply because you are perseverant by nature but it can be negative in some cases as you might be persisting on something which you actually don't want and sticking with it is simply hurting you. A person who is always hesitant, doubtful and backing over all issues in life will not be able to achieve anything substantial during the course of his/her life. It is the quality of wise perseverance that separates the average person from a genius. It is often observed and noted that genius often stems from an average dream but outstanding perseverance.Great things have come only to those who have persevered against the odds and dared to go beyond the established boundaries of his/her society. A desire can only take a real form when hard work to obtain it is persevered against all odds. There are some decisions in life when a person has to take a strong decision in order to overcome odd situations and circumstances. For this, one has to be mentally fit so that he or she is able to make sound decisions. Mental intelligence is of little importance when it comes to taking the biggest decisions arise.It is often seen that the mostly intelligent of people don't have the fortitude to take a bold decision and are often seen on the margins of a great achievement. The true power comes from persistence towards a fruitful goal. The ability to turn stumbling blocks into stepping stones makes the world respect you and push you towards the success you aspire for. Motivation plays a vital role in the constant persistence of a goal. If you are not motivated to achieve something, you are most likely to drop its pursuit half-way.It is essential to be passionate about the aim that you have set for yourself and constantly renew your motivation for it. The biggest success stories are of those who have endured all hardships and refused to give up the goal which in all sense s was wise to pursue. A positive mindset is an incomparable asset. The positive thinking and outlook is necessary for the success and development of an individual. Moreover, it helps you to overcome negative feelings and evils surrounding you and your work. If you feel that nothing can stop you from success and it will come to you eventually with hard work, it actually will.The world can never stop a determined man from getting his worth when he sets his mind to it. The ability to persevere stems from a great mind and makes the world recognize its greatness in due course of time. A man with perseverance can be easily distinguished from the group of people. Such a person has a different and unique personality which can impress the people surrounding him or her. You must have perseverance as a part of your personality if you wish to be known as a successful individual. A man of perseverance is certainly going to do well in his or her life if principle of perseverance

Graduation: Black People and Negro National Anthem Essay
Graduation is one of the most memorable moments in a lifetime. Maya Angelouââ¬â¢s graduation was an exciting moment, yet it was a very hurtful experience because of racism/segregation. This badly affects Angelou at her graduation. The overall point in Graduation is racism and segregation. Her choice of words is very powerful and emotional: It was awful to be a Negro. It was brutal to be young ad already trained to sit quietly and listen to charges brought against my color with no chance of defense. We should all be dead. I thought I should like to see us all dead, one on top of the other. A pyramid of flesh with white folks on the bottom as the broad base, then the Indians with their silly tomahawks and teepees and wigwams and treaties, the Negros with their mops and recipes and cotton sacks and spiritual sticking out of their mouths. The Dutch children should all stumble in their wooden shoes and break their necks. The French should choke to death on the Louisiana Purchase (1803) white silkworms ate all the Chinese with their stupid pigtails. As a species, we were an abomination. All of us. (110) This explains her emotions about racism, and how horrible it is. She closes it off by saying we are all the same species, and no one is different. This proves she believes racism is wrong. Because of segregation, the white schools are totally different from the black schools. Angelou defines the overall point by comparing the white schools to the black schools:â⬠Unlike the white high school, Lafayette County Training School distinguished itself from having neither lawn, nor hedges, nor tennis court, nor climbing ivyâ⬠(103). This reveals what kind of luxuries the white schools had and how unfair the education system was. When Donleavy, a white man comes to speak at the graduation he focuses on the improvements coming to the schools. The white schools had new academics and classroom equipment and the black schools had new tool boxes and athletic equipment. The writer refers to her anger as if African Americans could not achieve anything academic or intellectual. Donleavy is also a racist, ââ¬Å"The white kids were going to have a chance to become Galileos and Madame Curies and Edisons and Gauguins, and our boys would try to be Jesse Owenses and Joe Louisesâ⬠(109). Angelou dramatizes an experience involving segregation and racism. At the graduation, the graduates expect certain things to happen, The National Anthem, the Pledge of Allegiance and the ââ¬Å"Negro National Anthemâ⬠: ââ¬Å"The song every black person knew called the Negro National Anthem. All done in the same key, with the passion and most often standing on the same footâ⬠(108). This proves there is segregation in this time period because they sing their own song, which makes them feel separate from the nation. In the beginning of the ceremony, Angelou was thrilled to graduate. Once Donleavy speaks, the African Americans lose hope, ââ¬Å"The manââ¬â¢s dead words fell like bricks around the auditorium and too many settled in my bellyâ⬠(110). Donleavy is unconscious about the effect on his words: Graduation, the hush-hush magic time of frills and gifts and congratulations and diplomas, was finished for me before my name was called. The accomplishment was nothing. The meticulous maps, drawn in three colors of ink, learning and spelling decasyllabic words, memorizing the whole of The Rape of Lucrece- it was for nothing. Donleavy had exposed us. (110) After Donleavyââ¬â¢s speech the writer understands the words to the ââ¬Å"Negro National Anthemâ⬠for the first time, because of how badly he put down the African Americans. To get the overall point, Angelou leads the readers as if they were sitting alongside her at her graduation. She describes the black community, and the graduating class. Angelou starts out the essay by describing the community in Stamps: ââ¬Å"The children in Stamps trembled visibly with anticipation. Some adults were excited too, but to be certain the whole young population had come down with graduation epidemicâ⬠(103). She also describes the teachers, ââ¬Å"Even the teachers were respectful to the now quiet and aging seniors, and tended to speak to them, if not as equals, as beings only slightly lower than themselvesâ⬠(103). She uses effective similes to make the story come to life, ââ¬Å"But the graduating classes themselves were nobility. Like travelers with exotic destinations on their minds, the graduates were remarkably forgetfulâ⬠(103). This makes the readers understand the graduatesââ¬â¢ excitement, and how they were forgetful of the aspect of life, like to bring their books to school. As travelers with exotic destinations, the graduates have their whole future ahead of them, full of exotic experiences. She also uses another simile to describe herself on her graduation day: ââ¬Å"I was going to be lovely. A walking model of all the various styles of fine hand sewing and it didnââ¬â¢t worry me that I was only twelve years old and merely graduating from eight gradeâ⬠(105). She was so happy and filled with joy because of the accomplishments she had made, in which she felt beautiful like a model.

4 Reasons Why Trees Drop Nuts Early
Sometimes nut-bearing trees, such as hickory, walnut, and pecan, drop their fruit before full maturity. At times, it can be a natural shedding of a portion of the nut crop. Other causes can be more problematic, including adverse weather conditions, poor tree health, inadequateà pollination, insects, and disease. How Nut Trees Set Fruit Most nut-bearing trees have male pollinators and female flowers, both called catkins. Female flowers produce nuts during the current seasons growth and have to survive through that years growth before the crop of nuts is set. Not all flowers on a tree will produce a nut each year; in fact, they may alternate years.à There can be several natural nut drops between mid-Mays pollination through the end of Augusts fruit set, and they can be minimized by proper tree fertilization. For example, if a tree wasnt adequately pollinated or didnt have enough potassium to set good fruit, there will be nuts that may be malformed with few seeds inside (fruits on the tree grow but embryos inside dont develop). The tree will drop this fruit early because its not biologically sufficient for the trees reproduction. The tree will concentrate its energy on growing fruits that are going to set good seeds. A Trees Physical Condition Poor tree health can cause premature dropping of nuts. A trees health is often compromised because of inadequate nutrient uptake, which is most evident during drought. Insect and disease infestations increase during these times of tree stress and can further degrade a trees condition, especially if trees are growing in poor soil. Any early defoliation will cause nut drop and low-quality fruit. Water and fertilize your tree adequately to make sure it has the proper nutrients to set and grow its fruits. Weather Influence on a Trees Nut Crop Excessive rain or frost during late spring/early summer pollination will cause inadequate pollination of female flowers. Those poorly-pollinated flowers may produce a nut that will drop early or produce no nut at all. Sometimes, male pollen can mature either before or after the female flower is receptive, and this condition is usually weather-related. An extended drought during nut growth may also result in the dropping of tree nuts, particularly if the plant is in sandy soil that dries out quickly. Thats a resource competition drop, or a so-called June drop, as the tree is concentrating its energy on the number of nuts it can support.à Mechanical injury to leaves, flowers, and nuts from hail and wind may cause premature dropping as well. Insects and Diseases of Nut Trees Early pecan scab infection of young nuts will cause nuts to drop and is a major cause of pecan crop failure. Black walnut is highly vulnerable to anthracnose, and the disease is of much concern in commercial orchards. Leaf diseases in nut trees such as scab, scorch, mildew, blotch, brown spot, and downy or vein spot may also cause nut shedding. The pecan nut casebearer probably causes more nut shedding than all other insects combined in pecan orchards. Codling moth causes significant premature nut drop in black walnut groves. Other insects, such as black aphids, walnut caterpillar, shuckworms, stink bugs, and pecan weevils may cause early nut dropping. Avoid using pesticides during flowering, as chemicals can kill beneficial insects and result in inadequate pollination.
